New 2020 Audi RS Q3 spied testing

This is our first look at the forthcoming Audi RS Q3. Revisions over the standard car will include a more purposeful body kit, a revised chassis setup and a more powerful engine. When it reaches the UK market in 2020, it will sit at the top of the conventional Q3 range and be eventually joined there by the recently-snapped Audi RS Q3 Sportback coupe-SUV.

Audi’s RS treatment is immediately obvious in the spy shots; the masked areas hide a more aggressive styling package, with deeper front and rear bumpers, lower side skirts, a larger rear wing and the brand’s trademark oval exhaust tips. Other revisions include a lower ride height and a wider track.

• Best SUVs and 4x4s

Under the bonnet, the SUV is expected to use the same turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder petrol engine as the Audi RS 3, producing 395bhp and 480Nm of torque. Performance is likely to be fed to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, allowing an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

Chassis revisions on the RS model are expected to stretch to a set of optional adaptive dampers, an updated traction control system and fresh dynamic drive modes. In the spy shots, a set of oversized disc brakes front and rear can also be picked out behind this mule’s larger alloy wheels.

Inside, the RS Q3 will feature a pair of heavily bolstered RS-branded bucket seats, a multifunction sports steering wheel, LED ambient lighting and a range of “RS” badging. Like the standard Q3, Audi’s latest 9.2-inch infotainment system and 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster will also feature, offering smartphone connectivity and support for Google Maps.

• The fastest SUVs in the world

We expect the new Audi RS Q3 will make its debut alongside the Q3 Sportback at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
