Mark Cox of Birmingham Auto Detailing & Wet Sanding Studio

The professionals we accept into the Dr. Beasley’s Authorized Detailer Program are some of the most talented and hardest-working automotive appearance experts around. We’re proud to have them represent us and our ceramic coating systems, so we want to take the time to highlight each Authorized Detailer, sharing their story and what makes their business unique.

To start, we’ll take a look at Birmingham Auto Detailing & Wet Sanding Studio, owned and operated by Mark Cox, MAM.

Mark in his natural habitat.

Mark’s 30+ years of detailing experience began with his grandfather, who introduced him to paint systems when he was eight years old. But Mark wasn’t always a professional detailer. He actually holds a master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and worked in the defense industry for 15 years before opening his detailing business.

The knowledge of paint systems Mark picked up from his grandfather shows—in a world of buffer-happy detailers, Mark always takes the time to meticulously assess the vehicle in question so that he can prescribe the most appropriate services possible. It also allows him to practice more advanced procedures, like wet sanding. Wet sanding requires a deep understanding of various paint systems and at what paint thickness threshold the procedure could damage the finish. Mark has that deep understanding in spades.

But with that kind of expertise comes a premium, and Mark isn’t afraid to admit his prices are higher than most—in fact, he wears it as a badge of honor. “As in any service industry, those with the most experience, the best reputation, and most importantly a history of consistently outstanding results tend to be higher priced than others,” Mark explains on his site. “Wet sanding, paint correction, and polishing are my specialties. My customers feel that the results I produce are worth higher rates.”

When it comes to protecting his work, Mark utilizes a variety of products based on the needs of his customer. But even among the myriad of coatings and waxes at his disposal, Dr. Beasley’s holds a special place. Nano-Resin Pro is the longest-lasting coating offered by Birmingham Auto Detailing and it’s one of Mark’s favorites. “It’s some truly wicked stuff,” Mark often tells us. Dr. Beasley’s Bug Barrier is another favorite of his—”Makes bugs fly right off!”

Birmingham Auto Detailing & Wet Sanding Studio can be found online here. Mark also operates a mobile detailing business, Birmingham Mobile Car Detailing.
