The as-yet unnamed vehicle is promised to be the ‘most driver orientated vehicle to date’ from the Chinese marque.
The interior and exterior of the Geely ‘Sports Coupe SUV’, codenamed FY11, have been unveiled as the company pushes to become one of China’s more premium domestic brands.
Externally the FY11 mixes the silhouette of a BMW X4 with Geely’s “expanding cosmos grille”, and its corporate thin head- and tail-light treatment.
In the cabin, the cohesive and modern design, metal-like framing, LED ambient lighting strips, widescreen infotainment touchscreen, and digital instrumentation screen are the work of Peter Horbury and his team.
The FY11 is the first Geely vehicle to based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which was developed with subsidiary Volvo. CMA currently underpins the Volvo XC40, and is also used by Lynk & Co for its burgeoning range of vehicles.
Headlining the FY11’s engine range is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel pumping out 175kW of power and 350Nm of torque. The company says the range will be available with front- and all-wheel drive options.
We expect Geely will also offer the FY11 with less powerful three- and four-cylinder engines when it goes into production.
The FY11 will be one of three vehicles launched this year as Geely pushes its brand into new segments. The other two will be an electric sedan, and a people mover, likely based on the 2017 concept.
